A community planting day at the Otara Creek Reserve on 28 May 2016 launched the implementation of the Placemaking: Otara Waterways and Lake Strategic Plan.

A Clean up of the Otara Creek Reserve was organised on Saturday 29th April as part of the Otara Waterways and Lake Trust’s ongoing efforts to clean up the Otara waterways and provide positive ways for the local community to get involved.

The Otara Waterways and Lake Trust took its mission to restore the mauri of Otara’s waterways to the streets with the launch of its Neat Streets programme on Saturday 10 June 2017.

A community planting day was held on Saturday 9 June 2018 in the Otara Creek Reserve to plant many of the trees funded through the Million Metres programme.

Over 70 children, families, teachers from East Tamaki Primary School and Rongomai Primary School, Otara Papatoetoe Local Board members and other volunteers attended a planting day at Preston Rd Reserve on Saturday 23 June 2018.

A second Neat Streets events was held in Flinders Place Reserve on Saturday 10th February 2018. 59 households particpated on the day, removing 10.95 tonnes of inorganic items from the community.

The second annual clean-up of the Ōtara Creek Reserve was held on Saturday 19th May 2018.

Stage 2 of the Preston Rd Reserve planting was completed on Thursday 13th June 2019, with 1,100 native seedlings planted by approx. 50 volunteers

A Clean Up of the Ōtara Creek Reserve was organised on Thursday 13 September 2018 for Keep New Zealand Beautiful Week.

The Ōtara Waterways and Lake Trust hosted its third Neat Streets event on Saturday 8 December 2018, proudly supported by the Otara Papatoetoe Local Board.

The Ōtara Waterways and Lake Trust hosted its 4th Neat Streets event on Saturday 30th March 2019 for the residents of Pearl Baker Drive and Valder Crescent, Ōtara.
